I confess I don’t cook that often myself, but when I do, I try to get my children to help in whatever ways they can. I think this is very important. Yesterday my two-year old was tearing the lettuce and mixing the salad. Most of it even remained in the bowl. My older one likes to cut cucumber.

I believe it’s good for children to get ‘hands-on’ involved in cooking so that they develop a healthy interest in and an appreciation of food. My hypothesis is that they will hence eat better. I also think cooking is an elementary skill every boy and girl should learn, in an age-appropriate manner. In any case, helping in the kitchen eliminates the need for alternative entertainment, like screen time, so it’s a big plus.
